Dr. Evelyn Mae Tecson-Mendoza is a member-academician of the National Academy of Science and Technology Philippines (NAST PHL) and Professor Emeritus, University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). She obtained her BS Chemistry cum laude from the Mapua Institute of Technology, and MS and PhD Biochemistry from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. At UPLB, she headed the Plant Biotechnology Program of the Institute of Plant Breeding and then the Crop Biotechnology Program of the Crop Science Cluster-Institute of Plant Breeding. She was chair of the committees that led to the institution of the BS Agricultural Biotechnology and MS and PhD Molecular Biology and Biotechnology curricular programs and later chaired their Program Management Committees. Her researches on biochemical and biotechnology aspects of Philippine agricultural and underexploited crops have been published in more than 100 scientific papers in refereed journals. She was editor-in-chief of two leading scientific journals in the country, the Philippine Journal of Crop Science (1983–1987; 1990–2000) and the Philippine Agricultural Scientist (2004–2009), and is presently the editor-in-chief of the Transactions of the National Academy of Science and Technology. Dr. Tecson-Mendoza has been Overseas Editor, Bioscience, Biotechnology and Biochemistry (2007-2011) and member of the Editorial Board, Science Editing, since 2014. Dr. Tecson-Mendoza has been a scientist, teacher, and mentor to many students and researchers, and has promoted the culture of science in the country for many years.
