Demian Willette is an associate professor in the Biology Department at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, California. His teaching and research are in Applied Ecology – the field of taking science from the bench-top to the real world to solve ecological challenges. Dr. Willette has his Bachelor’s and master’s in biology from Iowa State University and California State University, respectively, and his Ph.D. in Environmental Health Science from UCLA. He also post-doc-ed in genetics & fisheries in Southeast Asia, including two years with the brilliant and kind staff of NFRDI. He later returned to the Philippines as a Fulbright Scholar at UP Dilliman’s Marine Science Institute. Dr. Willette has taught and conducted research in 13 countries and has published over 50 peer-reviewed scientific papers. Dr. Willette is truly honored to have this opportunity to be back in the Philippines and share his current research.
