Pia D. Bagamasbad, PH.D.

Dr. Pia D. Bagamasbad completed her undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, cum laude, from the University of the Philippines Diliman, and her Doctorate degree in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor. She did her Postdoctoral Training Fellowship, with funding support from a competitive training fellowship from the US Department of Defense, at the Department of Human Genetics of the University of Michigan Medical School. She is currently a Professor and Principal Investigator of the Molecular Endocrinology and Genome Editing Laboratory and the Director of the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology in UP Diliman. Her research work aims to understand the molecular basis of hormone action in the context of neuronal development and hormone-related cancer such as breast and prostate cancer. Dr. Bagamasbad is a recipient of the 2019 Outstanding Young Scientist Award given by the National Academy of Science and Technology. In recognition of her contributions in increasing the COVID-19 testing capacity of the Philippines, Dr. Bagamasbad was one of the recipients of the The Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS) in 2022.
